Seeing the childhood home of Bung Karni, one of Indonesia’s national heroes

Blitar – Blitar holds a history worth remembering. In addition to Bung Karno’s childhood home, Gebang Palace, and Bung Karno’s tomb, Blitar also houses the home of a prominent independence fighter.

The house in question belonged to Sukarni Kartowirdjo, now known as Ndalem Sukarni. He was the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Bung Karno to Rengasdengklok to immediately proclaim Indonesian independence.

Sukarni’s house is located in Sumberdiren Village, Garum District, Blitar Regency. It is not too far from Blitar City, only about 8 kilometers.

To this day, the house, owned by the man born in Blitar on July 14, 1916, remains much as it was when it was occupied by its owner. The building’s appearance and ornamentation are still preserved.

The room that once served as Sukarni’s bedroom also remains. Visitors can enter the room for a closer look.

Every year, in July, an event is held to commemorate Sukarni’s Haul. People flocked to enliven the event.

The building, Ndalem Sukarni, is elongated and features a spacious front yard.

According to legend, the wooden supports for the roof were replaced due to the eruption of Mount Kelud.

Today, Sukarni Park is located not far from his residence. The park commemorates the services of this national hero.

Sukarni Park was inaugurated on December 31, 2018, by the then Regent of Blitar. It is located in Garum District, Blitar Regency.
