Blitar – When talking about tourism in Blitar, many people probably immediately think of Tambakrejo Beach or Penataran Temple.
But did you know? Blitar also has a tourist destination that’s no less interesting and steeped in history: the Bung Karno Proclamation Library. This place is located right next to Bung Karno’s Tomb, at Jalan Kalasan No. 1, Bendogerit Village.
Vacations don’t always have to be to the beach or the mountains! If you love history or want to take your family to learn about Indonesia’s struggle for independence, the Bung Karno Proclamation Library is the perfect place.
Inaugurated by the 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, on July 3, 2004, this library boasts a rich collection of Bung Karno’s history and thoughts.
More than just a library, this place is more like a museum, housing thousands of books, including those read and written by Bung Karno himself.
The Bung Karno Special Collection consists of 2,407 book titles totaling 6,757 copies (as of August 2022). In addition to books, various historical photographs are also displayed, including those from Bung Karno’s exile, and even a wooden suitcase he used to store his books during his exile.
The library is also adorned with two iconic works of art. A statue of Bung Karno stands proudly in the center of Building A, on the first floor, and a wall relief depicting his life.
This relief stretches from the library to the tomb, crossing a pond, adding to the beauty and serenity of the atmosphere.
Another interesting addition is the “living” painting of Bung Karno. This painting appears to move or pulsate when viewed from various angles. This is sure to be a unique photo spot for those of you who love hunting for Instagram-worthy images!
The library is open daily, Monday through Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. So, whenever you plan to visit Blitar, be sure to stop by. However, please note that this library is closed on national holidays and collective leave.
