Blitar – Mount Kelud is a natural tourist destination in Blitar, East Java, offering the beauty of a volcano and an exotic crater.
The Mount Kelud crater is a major attraction, with its water color changing to ruby green due to volcanic gas deposits. However, during heavy rain, the water can turn brownish.
Before reaching the crater, visitors will pass through a 200-meter-long tunnel. After exiting the tunnel, the charm of the Kelud Crater, surrounded by green hills, becomes even more captivating.
This crater area was once a 300-meter-high submountain, but was destroyed by an eruption in 2014 and transformed back into a water-filled crater.
Besides the crater, Mount Kelud also boasts another attraction: the Sumbing Gajah Mungkur Cliff. This cliff has a slope of approximately 70 degrees with a pointed peak, resembling a pyramid.
This 250-meter-high cliff is a challenge for rock climbers. Although Mount Kelud has erupted several times, this cliff remains sturdy and a silent witness to nature’s might.
To enjoy the beauty of Mount Kelud, visitors are charged an entrance fee of IDR 10,000, with a parking fee of IDR 5,000.
The easiest way to reach this tourist attraction is via Karangrejo, Blitar, about 6 kilometers from the nearest village, or a four-hour drive.
From the basecamp area, visitors can walk or take a motorcycle taxi for IDR 70,000 round-trip from basecamp to post one.
The natural beauty presented along the journey to the summit of Mount Kelud makes this tour a perfect choice for nature and adventure lovers.
